A great evening at Mission Bay. The season now at its penultimate round, the distances were 750m swim and 5k run. The competition was close amongst the boys who all raced true to form. There was a good going NNE wind, causing significant chop as it hit the outgoing tide. Ben Schubert lead out of the water, with a trio of Nick Lichtwark, Sam Tyler and Mike Hale all meeting in transition. Nick took off like a stung rabbit, and was never challenged. Mike and Sam caught Ben and had a classic battle. The wiley Hale sticking to the back of Tyler out to St Heliers, despite several healthy surges from Sam. Mike Lichtwark caught the pair coming home from St Heliers, again proving too fast to stick with. Hale then pulled a massive burst 500m out from the finish to go past Tyler. He held this and it ended up that Mike Lichtwark, Hale and Tyler (in that order) were separated by just 16 seconds at the finish. Schubert ran home next, closely followed by the ever–improving Myles Robinson.
