Weekend Happenings 21-22 Nov 2009

Another great weekend for the brothers.

Matt Raffs and Sam Tyler (with a crew of friends and family) had a crack at the Harbour Crossing swim on Saturday. On the 2.8k swim across the harbour they encountered some of the choppiest conditions ever, but all managed to make it through well and are pumped for more ocean swims through the summer, nice work!

Not content with a solid showing at the Auckland Half Marathon, the Lichtwark family ventured north for the Kerikeri Half on Saturday. They were successful in their search for fast times. With a fast course and a favourable wind, Mike ran a stunning 1:18, Nick a 1:21 PB, and the legendary Alan grabbed a 1:26 at 58 years. Very impressive.

In the forest, Mike Hale and Dave Robbo combined with Nick (obviously not tired enough after the Half marathon) to contest the second round of the Auckland Cross Country Mountain Bike Series. Held on a private farm in Parakai, the course was technical and undulating. This resulted in many gear-changes (not much use of the big ring) and a substantial number of tumbles. Dave clocked up 5 falls on his first lap, whereas Nick opted for the all in one approach and duly gave himself a black eye and an early retirement on lap 2. All the boys were racing in the sport class with Mike landing 2nd and Dave 4th in this race. The final event is in 2 weeks at Woodhill.

Great stuff

Mike
