On a wet Sunday Myles Robinson, Ron King, Mike Hale, Todd Calkin and Alan Lichtwark showed up for the second to last instalment in the Xterra offroad run series. The carparking was tight and the roads were muddy. The tracks too proved to be a wet and slippy experience, as the heavy rains had taken good effect. Offroad shoes were definitely an asset as big lugs were needed to avoid sliding down some of the steeper sections without any control.
King took off like a stung rabbit from the start and ran well across the technical trails which he prefers to secure a solid 5th overall. Hale had another good race to come 7th just 3 minutes behind. Calkin was a bit off the pace but Robinson showed his improvement with a solid 2hr19 for the tough 22k course. And Lichtwark senior was just beaten to the line by another master – barely 30 seconds separating them after over two hours of running. He holds on to his series lead however.
Next race is the final – Saturday September 4 at Shakespear Reserve, Whangaparaoa.
See below for an update on the barry curtis 10k – a very fast 10k course, timed just before the Auckland marathon making it a perfect buildup.
